Country roadside mailboxes are usually independent attempts made at various times – see below – which is understandable but untidy, uncoordinated and perhaps more time consuming for the mailman.

The above was my gesture to the 9 houses along our Little Burra road.

It worked well, but unbelievably it was knocked down twice during our time there – 1973-1991.

The more usual arrangement – sometimes with an old refrigerator to keep the contents cool – more appropriate for the Earlier times when ice blocks were delivered
