1995 BED BOOKHOLDER For recumbent reading of books in bed

The reading of heavy books when lying down in bed, especially in winter, can be painful for those with arthritis, tiring and cold for the arms.

This device, made from small diameter stainless steel tubing is fixed to a bedside table and can be swung out of the way for bed making but is positioned so that when lying in bed it can easily be swung around to a comfortable eyesight position.

The bookholder can be swivelled horizontally as well as tilted forward or backward and the two clear plastic retainers can hold the book even if leaning forward and still enable easy page turning. The whole can be height adjusted initially but needs no further adjustment.

It works in association with a swivelling Anglepoise lamp for ideal lighting which has proved to be quite critical for easy reading with minimal disturbance to a partner.

When finished reading they are both simply swung to the side without any adjustments.

It would be a great help to anyone who is severely incapacitated or confined to bed and a major advantage in winter is that your arms can largely stay under the doona!

The bookholder and the light can be easily swung aside to make bedmaking easier.

The anglepoise light ensures optimum location of light, especially if your partner is bothered by it. A fixed bedside light answers neither of these problems. The transparent adjustable page holders enable books to be tilted forward for more comfortable reading, and their adjustability is a great help in many ways especially when turning pages. Their transparency ensures minimum need to move them. The tilt angle is easily adjusted at the back and supports quite heavy books – a tremendous help to those with arthritis. The distance between the pivots of the page holders can also be adjusted to suit the size of the book.
