1963 REDESIGN OF ANU ARMS

The need for a bronze version of the arms to be placed in the ANU Council Room required the drawing of a more balanced and modern version.

The drawing produced with the original Grant of Arms by the College of Heraldry in 1946(?) was only the version produced by their artist, other versions are permissible and in this instance was clearly needed.

It was encouraged by the late Ross Hohnen, then Secretary to the ANU.

The lettering was hand drawn by me (no computers in those days) and the fixed proportions of Letraset letters were too rigid. The curvilinear nature of the motto above required some adjustment of the letter forms.
